Each year, Monmouth Battlefield in New Jersey transforms into a vivid reminder of the past as re-enactors gather to bring the 1778 battle to life. We had the opportunity to photograph one of these re-enactments, where history enthusiasts in full 18th-century gear recreated scenes from one of the largest and most grueling battles of the Revolutionary War. The heat was intense, just like it was on the actual day of the battle, and the fields echoed with musket fire, shouted commands, and the boom of cannons. From the tents and cooking fires to the cavalry charges and infantry formations, the attention to historical detail was remarkable.

Photographing the re-enactment wasn’t just about documenting the battle scenes; it was about honoring the spirit of those who fought and the people today who are dedicated to keeping their stories alive. Monmouth Battlefield offered us both a dramatic setting and a meaningful connection to our country’s history.
